From an article in the PakTribune about Seaweed and it's nutritional benefits.....
Can Seaweed Battle Cancer?
" However, most of the studies in recent years that have been done regarding the effects of seaweed, are against cancer. Hoping to find the ability to shrink tumors with algae, many researchers have devoted years to observing the patterns and data surrounding this important compound.
A 2005 study conducted at the Georgia Institute of Technology found a small strain of red algae off the coast of Fiji called Callophycus serratus, that looks promising for a new, natural cure for cancer. With ten new natural compounds from the strain to work with, researchers found that some of the compounds were born antibacterial fighters and have held up in the lab against known diseases that resist antibiotics. It was said that the natural germ-killers were made by the seaweed to ward off predators and disease. Another compound was able to kill tumor cells in the lab by being able to turn on the suicide switch in the individual cells, which scientists call a head start to a new possible line of anticancer drugs. Georgia Tech biochemists insist that they are only in the “test tube level” and many more studies will be conducted. "

Vitamin D and Cancer
And here's another little cancer preventive that's cheap and easy to do.
It seems more and more simple things are being brought to light.
Researchers have found that low levels may be associated with osteomalacia and osteoporosis, and have been linked to increased risks of developing heart disease, hypertension, some autoimmune diseases (including type 1 diabetes, multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis) and several types of cancer. In December, a study reported in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism said that vitamin D deficiencies can cause weight gain and stunt growth in girls during puberty -- a peak time of growth.

It sounds too good to be true ? a little inexpensive pill that could block the development of some cancers, strengthen bones, prevent multiple sclerosis and alleviate winter depression.
http://www.news-medical.net/?id=34992
This web site is dedicated to vitamin D and cancer. This is because exciting new research indicates that vitamin D—whether produced in the skin as a result of exposure to ultraviolet radiation (from sunlight or sun lamps) or obtained from supplementation with cholecalciferol (vitamin D3)—may help cancer patients. However, the research is far from complete.
http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/cancerMain.shtml
So what are some sources of Vitamin D?
Sunlight
Fish liver oils
Herring
Catfish
Salmon
Mackerel
Sardines
Tuna
Eel
Eggs
Beef liver
And of course Milk, but a lot of people have problems with milk.
So suppliments might be a good idea.

Asparagus for Cancer?
As more and more regular foods emerge that may stop or even reverse cancer, nothing is surprising me any more.
However this one did take me a little off guard.
I've read about Asparagus being one of the anti cancer foods, but nothing this detailed.....
" Asparagus
Several years ago, I had a man seeking asparagus for a friend who had cancer. He gave me a photocopied copy of an article, entitled, `Asparagus for cancer' printed in Cancer News Journal, December 1979. I will share it here, just as it was shared with me:
"I am a biochemist, and have specialised in the relation of diet to health for over 50 years. Several years ago, I learned of the discovery of Richard R. Vensal, D.D.S. that asparagus might cure cancer. Since then, I have worked with him on his project, and we have accumulated a number of favourable case histories. Here are a few examples.
Case No. 1, man with an almost hopeless case of Hodgkin's disease (cancer of the lymph glands) who was completely incapacitated. Within 1 year of starting the asparagus therapy, his doctors were unable to detect any signs of cancer, and he was back on a schedule of strenuous exercise.
Case No. 2, a successful businessman 68 years old who suffered from cancer of the bladder for 16 years. After years of medical treatments, including radiation without improvement, he went on asparagus. Within 3 months, examinations revealed that his bladder tumour had disappeared and that his kidneys were normal.
Case No. 3, a man who had lung cancer. On March 5th 1971 he was put on the operating table where they found lung cancer so widely spread that it was inoperable. The surgeon sewed him up and declared his case hopeless. On April 5th he heard about the asparagus therapy and immediately started taking it. By August, x-ray pictures revealed that all signs of the cancer had disappeared. He is back at his regular business routine.
Case No. 4, a woman who was troubled for a number of years with skin cancer. She finally developed different skin cancers which were diagnosed by a skin specialist as advanced. Within 3 months after starting on asparagus, her skin specialist said that her skin looked fine and no more skin lesions. This woman reported that the asparagus therapy also cured her kidney disease, which started in 1949. She had over 10 operations for kidney stones, and was receiving government disability payments for an inoperable, terminal, kidney condition. She attributes the cure of this kidney trouble entirely to the asparagus."

Vitamin D for cancer
Vitamin D for cancer
It sounds too good to be true ? a little inexpensive pill that could block the development of some cancers, strengthen bones, prevent multiple sclerosis and alleviate winter depression.
But it's not science fiction. The "new aspirin" could be Vitamin D. Just as we discovered that aspirin can guard against heart disease, Vitamin D could become a useful weapon in the fight against MS, osteoporosis, mild depression and one of the most devastating diseases of our time - cancer.
"As time has gone by, Vitamin D has raised its head as a sort of ambrosia for cancers," says Dr. Louise Parker, an epidemiologist and a world expert in the environmental exposures that can lead to cancer. Or, in the case of Vitamin D, the lack of exposure.

FTC Wants Bogus Cancer Cures out of the Internet
FTC Wants Bogus Cancer Cures out of the Internet
People who suffer from cancer should forget about the miraculous cures promised on hundreds of Internet pages or should inform authorities about companies selling them. At least, this is the latest message of the Federal Trade Commission which is desperately trying to make people more aware of the fact that there is no scientific evidence that these cures actually work. And still there are millions of people who put their trust in them hoping for a miracle not even knowing that these cures might have side effects that might interfere with the drugs already prescribed.
